Candles

1-4 drops per candle

Light the candle and allow the wax to melt around the wick. Then blow out the candle and add the essential oil to the melted wax.

Essential oils are flammable, so ensure none gets on the wick. As the wax starts to solidify, light the candle carefully, preferably using a match rather than a lighter, Aromatic candles can be pre-prepared for later use.

Hands 1 drop between both hands) neat or diluted

Put one drop of essential oil in the palm of one hand, rub both palms together, alternatively, first dilute the drop of essential oil in a small amount of vegetable oil.

Holding the hands around your nose and mouth, breather deeply.

If praying, hold the hands in the classic position, palms together and near the face.

Water Bowl  3-10 drops This is a diffusion method. Place a small bowl in the room, away from small children and animals . Put boiling water in it, then add the essential oil. The steam carries the aroma around the room.

Washing Feet  2-4 drops This is often carried out as a symbolic gesture. Fill a large bowl with warm water. Take a teaspoon of salt, add the essential oil to it, then sprinkle on the water. Gently wipe the feet with a linen or cotton cloth.
Washing Hands  1drop

Put a teaspoon of salt in the palm of one hand, add one drop essential oil to it, then rub the hands together, and rub the forearms, up to the elbow.

Methods Of Use

Methods Of Use

Throughout this website various spiritual practices are described , with suggested methods of us. The following chart is intended as a general guide to the volume of essential oil appropriate for each method. See also Safety and Precautions.

Any objects used in the process of making spiritual connection - such as diffusers, bottles, bowls and candles - should be reserved for that purpose only and set apart from those used in physical healing or environmental fragrancing. The object should be aesthetically pleasing and treasured.

Method  Amount Of Essential Oil  Process
Anointing 1-2 drops in half teaspoon vegetable oil  Dilute the essential oil in an organic vegetable oil. Virgin, cold-pressed olive oil could be used although you may find the aroma of the olive oil overpowers the aroma of the essential oils. Almond is a good carrier oil to use for anointing.
 Baths

 1-6 drops

run the bath, then add the essential oil and swish it around, The door should be shut to ensure the aroma remains in the room.

Essential oils can be used in their concentrated forms. For those with sensitive skins, the essential oil can be diluted in a vegetable oil - using 1 drop of essential to 1 drop of vegetable oil.

For salt baths, add two drops of essential oil to a teaspoon of essential oil  to a teaspoon of salt, mix well, then add to the bath water.

Some essential oils can cause skin irritation.

These include basil, cinnamon, clove, grapefruit, eucalyptus piperata, lemon, lime, peppermint, and thyme.

When used singly , the above should be used with caution.

When used in blends, they can sometimes be used in baths - depending on the particular formulation.

Body Oils 10-20 drops in 30ml (1 fluid ounce) of vegetable oil

If using 1 essential oil , add it to the carrier oil already in the bottle.

If using a blend of essential oils, put them into the empty bottle first, roll the bottle between your hands, then add the carrier oil, and blend again by rolling the bottle between the hands.

For the uses in this web site, it is better to make up small amounts, use them, and remake the body oil as required.

Label the bottles with their ingredients and purpose, adding the date of preparation.

Diffusers

6-12 drops but more if you wish

Diffusers used for spiritual practice should be devoted to this purpose, and not used in any other context.

Diffusers or 'burners' have two sections: one for the heat source and one for the water/essential oil.

The bowl portion in which the water and oil are put should be non-porous, and thoroughly cleaned between each occasion of use.

Put in enough water to allow for evaporation; use already heated water.

Put the essential oil on the water, with the heat source already in place.

Spiritual Blending

Spiritual Blending

Aromatherapists choose which essential oils to use for a particular client by an informed diagnosis of the condition presented, the decision on how it can best be treated, and an extensive knowledge of essential oils - as they may affect the physical, mental and emotional. The good intent of the therapist or person applying the oils activates the light potential in essential oils.

Just before blending, I look at the client and in that instant know whether another element should be added, the spiritual. As the essential oils are joined together , their colours glow, their voices sing. When they have been synergistically blended, the carrier oil is added, and the bottle is whirled around in the hands. at the most energetic point, concentrate with love on the plants from which these essences came , on the sacredness of the fragrance and the joy they bring.

Those thoughts will be transmitted into the blend.

At this point, my mind goes empty : with no, thoughts, just a feeling of complete peace and oneness with the oils. I see the energy of the oils , and dwell in them for a microsecond, luxuriating in the universal energies of which we are all part. Then I return to the client and continue in a clinical way, not thinking again about the essential oils, not imposing any thoughts on them.

The blend performs its own mission, transporting the precious molecules , which connect with receptors throughout the body.We are the Go-betweens,carrying the catalyst - the essential oils  - which will help the mind, body and spirit to heal itself.

Body Oils

Body Oils

in many Arabian countries, a bride's body is massaged in preparation for the sacred marriage ceremony with oils including orange blossom (neroli) rose, jasmine and other exquisite perfumes. Her dress is often perfumed, while the bridegroom may be anointed with rose and oud (also known as aloeswood). These aromatic extravagances have a very long tradition, and their purpose is not only to purify, but to deter the evil spirits, the jinn, from coming to the ceremony.

There is a special sacredness about using essential oils directly on the body. The human being is physical mental, emotional and spiritual, and all are precious. As a general rule, to one ounce of carrier oil (30ml) add between 10-20 drops of essential oil.

In clinical aromatherapy - the use of essential oils for therapeutic purposes - the choice of carrier oils can be very important to the outcome. This is not necessarily the case with subtle healing. In Western spiritual traditions, two oils stand out as well established and loved, olive oil and almond oil, no doubt because these trees grew in the Holy Land.

Olive oil is too heavy for all-over body oils; almond oil is thus a good option when choosing a carrier oil. The words ' carrier oil' are interchangeable in aromatherapy with 'base oil' or 'vegetable oil'.

When making a body oil, put the essential oils into the empty bottle first, and swish them around the bottom of the bottle to allow them to act synergistically with each other. Only when they are blended, and have become something more than their individual parts, should the carrier oil be added. put the top on the bottle, turn it upside down a couple of times, then gently roll the bottle between your hands. This action not only ensures complete mixing of ingredients, but energizes the blend.
